ok can use some help....

are all dvd drives using the same type of lasers?
have you ever heard of swapping out dvd-rom boards?

reason why, I'm making a huge assumption saying they are all basically the same, and swapping out the dvd-rom boards from a working xbox dvd (already re-eng'd). Hopefully this is the key for this dvd drive problem I got.

If you are shooting for portable why not remove the dvd drive and shave the xbox down and just FTP games onto it.. :cool :

Major bump on this moldy thread....

Ok got a POS laptop and going to finish work I started on this thing 3 years ago. Currently molding plexiglass, and soldiered a dvd rom. Do like the FTP idea, but going for an overhaul, and trying it the hard way first.

Will have pictures up by the end of next month! Still got to fly from the sand box...
