cpu cooling help

Post by theshadow6 »

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this. I have a 3.0 ghz duel core processor (intel 830), 2 gigs of ram, a radeon x800xl graphics card, and 4 hard drives in my computer. It has three fans but it still runs pretty hot-the cpu is about 135-140 degrees when I'm just surfing the web and can get a lot higher if I'm playing games. The fans run full speed almost constantly and get very loud. I'm not too concerned about the temperature (but it would be nice to get it a little lower) but the noise can get pretty annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to cool my computer so that it the fans can run a little slower? I'm more interested in software and very cheap/easy to install hardware (not heatsinks or anything) related solutions. I tried cpu idle already and it didn't seem to help much, although my motherboard wasn't supported by it so it might not have been working properly. Thanks

WELECOME TO PCA!

140 F is not hot at all (that's 60 C). No worries there.

What you need is quieter fans. I exclusively use Nexus fans. They're unbelievably quiet, without sacrificing airflow:
