Looking at it, it is rather obvious that this is the best air cooling that exists. Hats off to Thermalright for continually making the best, and not resting on their laurels.

Mike,
That thing is a iceburg with the tornado, anyway to use a speed controller and find a happy medium?
That 92mm cant be as loud as the 60mm delta i have in the drawer here LOL

You didn't fully read the review, did you Bill.
In it I did say i use a sunbeam fan controller to adjust the tornado. There is no way in heck I could handle a tornado on full speed all the time. When not testing I run it at a quiet 23-2600rpm.

Will it work with this mobo?
Does anyone know if this mobo will work with this heatsink?
Albatron K8t800 motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... =22&depa=1
I'm biulding my music teacher a computer, and wanted to know if this would work well with this mobo and the Athlon 64 3200+ processor. It's going to have some heavy use, and I figured that a heavy-duty heatsink would help keep the thing running for long periods of time. I intend to use a Tornado fan, and mount it on garden-variety rheostat with a direct-bypass switch. I picked this mobo for the FireWire and integrated 7.1 sound, as these are both VERY important with music afficionados.
Do you think a a cheap Nforce3 mobo would be better? At 130$, the price is right, but I will deffer to the will of the masses.

Nope. The athlon 64 takes a whole new heatsink and the SP97 will not work for that mobo.
There will be released a heatpipe version for the athlon64 called the SP98. But it isn't out yet. I'm told 'soon'.
For now, the best is the Thermalright SLK948U or the thermaltake Venus 12. Both are made for athlon64. I'd suggest the SLK948U, or wait for the SP98.
welcome to pca

@#$@#$@#$!@
Crap.
I'm not biulding this computer for an overclocker, so maybe the SP98 would be overkill. Then again, I have hade all sorts of troubles with CPU overheating, and spending 60$ on a heatsink to save a 260$ processor just seems like a good idea.
Thanks a bunch for your advice!
P.S. my teacher might just go with a 2500+ instead, which makes sense, considering that she wants to do heavy-duty music stuff while saving money. I was looking at a 50$ ATI Radeon 9200 (400mhz ram, as opposed to the slower SE) but wanted to know if there is a better budget video card.
Also, does anyone know of a good, but inexpensive, PCI Audio ACCELLERATOR card? The Audigy 2 ZS looks nice, especially with the add-on music port expander.

You might want to ask those questions in our General forum. More people will see it there. Here most are loking for heatsink info.
I'll try though. As far as the 9200, I think the nvidia 5200 may be a little better. But again, you'll get more answers in our general or video card forum. Same for the sound card. I'm not up on all of them. But the fortissimo III I have is inexpensive and sounds very good.

What's the effect of mobo orientation on the performance of coolers with heatpipes?
The photos all show the mobo laying flat and that's how you install the HS, but then inside the case the mobo is vertical. I read that you need to have the pipes parallel to the floor, is there a place that the bend in the u-tubes needs to be (in towards the mobo or out towards the back of the case?). Photos usually show the bend in the u-tube in towards the mobo and the crimped ends of the tubes towards the back of the case. The installation instructions and reviews don't address this very clearly (or maybe I'm in too much of a rush and missed it).
Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply Nomjr. I have the cpu at 1.7v.
cunnjohn, It only goes on one way. But I guess you could have it pointing the opposite direction. How you see it in my review is how it goes. The holes are aligned that way so you can't have it in just any direction. It fits on one way and that's it. Of course different mobos may have it pointing a different direrction, because of the mobo holes.
I think that's what you mean?
