Lan gaming and switches

ive been playing quite a few lan games around the house with friends and we always get hangups, i know its based on my router. what switches do you guys use, i need something to bridge a decent connection between our boxes.

btw, i have all their boxes folding now ;)

I have an 8 port linksys 10/100 switch that i bought years ago here for about $40 - never had any issues

I wouldnt go with anything except for linksys or netgear, or if you wanna get big and pricy, a 3com :) )

i'm not too keen on linksys. i like smc and dell (smc-made) for the price/performance. netgear isn't too bad either. i try to stay away from dlink unless it's their higher end stuff. depending on how many nodes you have, you should definitely watch for how much bandwidth the switch can actually handle (this should be at least a couple gbps for an 8 port switch).

latelly dlink has really impressed me. linksys has done jsut the opposite only ticked me off. there own stuff doesnt even work with its self some times and on there wireless stuff there software is awful!

For gaming a switch is a switch is a switch. If you're getting lag problems then you've got a switch with a bad port on it, a bad cable, or someone is flooding the network.
