ipconfig /release doesn't work...??

if I run cmd then do ipconfig /release it says that it's already been released and if I do a /renew it gives this error
An error occurred while renewing interface Local area connection 2 : The system cannot find the file specified
what the heck does that mean...
I have uninstalled the NIC and reinstalled it, uninstalled/reinstalled the windows networking clients and the TCP/Ip protocols and etc
still not workin...
anybody run into this before? or have some suggestions... let me know! thanks!
of course this happens RIGHT after I get my OTHER problem sorted out...
Scratch this one.. I fixed it myself
Did a repair install of XP and this are back up and running
