Better Speed Test from DSLReports.com
A LOT of useful info. They even log a history of your tests for comparison.
I like that they also test for buffer bloat. Nice confirmation that the QoS settings I'm using on my router to eliminating buffer bloat is showing up.

Christians warn us about the anti-christ for 2,000 years, and when he shows up, they buy a bible from him.

For comparison, this is with QoS turned off. I get a bit more speed because with QoS enabled, you need to cap the router at a speed 12 - 15% less than your max available bandwidth in order to provide headroom, but with QoS disabled my buffer bloat goes sky high. The trade off is well worth it, trust me, I prefer to lose a little bandwidth and eliminate buffer bloat.
What's buffer bloat? Does your online game or Netflix lag when you're also downloading a file or using BitTorrent (even on another PC)? That's buffer bloat. I never have that problem anymore.

BTW, if you're interested, I discussed how I setup QoS on my Tomato firmware router to prevent buffer bloat at the end of this thread: https://www.pcabusers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=57111

We've been complaining that our work connection is terrible and this confirms it. It wouldn't be a big deal except that our servers are 2,500 miles away. We don't have a dedicated line either. I'll post my home connection later.

I have blufferbloat on the upload . . . which is likely a result of the poor implementation by the ISP. I'm actually paying for a gigantic 2MBS but the tech who installed it says nobody gets that 'cause we are near end of the service area. I'll check my router/modem later, but it is an ISP special so I doubt it.

I'm running pfSense at home so I'll check out their forums to see if anyone has a guide for dealing with it.FlyingPenguin wrote:Buffer bloat has nothing to do with the ISP. It's caused by poor home router designs that use too large a cache.

Looks like I score Cs all around. We have been having some router issues lately but for all intents and purposes, our internet is awesome considering the little podunk town I live in.
