Have a V770U on my W98se machine with DX8 and I cant run any games or stess programs.

Had lots of bsod, unable to run Sims, Ut etc so reformatted and reinstalled W98se.
Got everything running, a bit slow maybe but compared to my 6800, including 3dmark2000 & UT.
Downloaded and installed 3dmark2001 and ran it once for a score then next score it booted out of the program by itself. Tried 2000 and it wouldn't run past the first screen. Ran sisoft burnin and it froze. Reinstalled everything and tried burnin multimedia only selected and still wont go. I feel it has to do with the Det3's or DX8.
Any ideas or things to try. I could swap out to a Voodoo 3 but I tried last week and it wouldn't install the drivers for some reason.

which drivers you running? You're best bet is to uninstall the drivers, clean out the registry, and start out with a tried and true set of drivers. You didn't mention if you were overclocking it, so I imagine that you are running at default speed. Also, sometimes the tnt2 ultra won't handle a high agp bus. I had one that wouldn't do 89 mghz.
So if you are overclocking the cpu, on a bx chipset, that can be a problem.

hope this helped,

AGP is 2/3 at 103fsb

Tried to reinstall the drivers, including the origonal disk drivers. I'm using the det3's right now.

By cleaning out the registry, what do you mean? How?
The card is running at default.
I have a V5 coming any day and this one will be gone but would like to figure it out.

The celeron runs at 103mz fsb, the agp is at 2\3 and the vid card is stock with a GW fan & the voltage is 1.8. The temp of the cpu is 17-19c so I dont think it could be a heat or overclock issue. This cpu has been running at this fsb since new.

If it was a P3 at 150fsb, then maybe.

I downloaded and installed the latest nvidia drivers and its completing 3dmark2k now. I'll add in a game later.

blackhawk, I think he meant the speed of the cpu is causing you're agp bus speed to be too high. At all default settings, norm cpu/vid card it's still acting goofy? Could be you've cooked your mem on the vid card a bit too much. Have you tried a different card to check it?

good luck,

AGP bus at 67mz is too high?

Post by blackhawk »

Normal agp is 66 and this one is running at 2/3 of 103fsb or 67.

Are you thinking I'm running it at 1/1 or 103?

I dont understand what you mean by the agp bus too high.

I have got it back to more or less normal after reinstalling vid drivers. Just adding more programs in to test it as I go along.

blackhawk, does the vid card work ok at default speed? That agp bus is okay, heck, I had one that would do 84 mghz just fine. You have PC100 or PC133? Or is it PC66? Is the ram timing set really high, like CAS 2? BSOD's sound like something other than a vid card problem. Can you try lowering your ram timings to default, or if you have more than one stick, try a single and different slots too. Just have to use trial and error I guess and keep hammering at it till you come up with something.

good luck,

It's getting back to normal!

I have micron crucial(cas2 @ 133) running at only 103 so that should be okay. I took a couple usb peripherals off it and switched boxes around and I think it must have been a bad driver file.
I tried to pull the V770u out a couple days ago and put in a V3 2000 but I couldn't install the drivers.
I'm probably going to put in the Asus 6800 when my V5500 gets here next week, at least I dont have to change drivers.
It did seem like a heat or bad memory problem.
