Just thought I'd share this with those of you who would like to put your videos/movies/tv shows on DVD, but don't want the hassle of learning the various ins-and-outs of the many programs out there, or having to tie up your computer for hours and hours on end:
GUI4FFMPEG is the best tool I've ever used for converting avi xvid or mpeg to the DVD format. You may have to adjust the settings a bit, but this program has yet to let me down. It's fast - it only took me about 30 minutes to convert a 700MB pal SVCD to a fully readable ntsc DVD mpeg2 file.
And unlike many of the other conversion programs out there, Gui4ffmpeg took everything I threw at it and maintained the high quality of the avis and xvids that I had on my hard drive - plus this program is free!
If you do give this program a try, I'd suggest encoding with AC3 six channel sound, even if the source file has only two channels of sound - encoding with two channels doesn't work and leads to glitchy DVD's (in my case) - anyway, set-top DVD players will down-mix the 6 channels back to 2 channels. All the DVD's I've made using Gui4ffmpeg's AC3 six channel have been perfect.
This program makes creating DVD mpeg2 files with AC3 sound a walk in the park - and double it up with TMPGEnc DVD Author and you've got yourself a one-two punch.
TMPGEnc DVD Author has to be paid for, but I like the ease of use it provides....
EASY WAY TO MAKE YOUR DVD'S INTO XVID/DIVX:
FairUse Wizard is a program for those of us who want a fairly fast program for making our dvds into xvids or divx files, without having to use a bunch of programs to do it. Load your DVD into your computer's dvd drive, start FairUse Wizard - a few clicks later, the program will rip your dvd and convert it into the format you choose.. Best of all - it's free, free, free!
