Definitive video card comparison guide on Tom's...
People are always asking how one card compares to another. Tom's Hardware puts out an article every 6 months with a comparison of all the popular card types from low end to high end gaming. Tom's a kiss-ass, but the charts in these articles tell you what you need to know when deciding what GPU you want:

That chart was released around July I think. Should be another one out soon.
Just nice to see a broad comparison like that. Usually you only see a card benched agains 2 or 3 other cards around the same class which tells you nothing.

i have to say as much as I was against spending 250 on a video card... i cant say that i am dissapointed. The x800 xl holds up pretty good for what i do. And i havent even overclocked it yet.

9800 Pro is still a good card and definately the card I'd buy now if I was on a budget. For PCI-E the equivalent in price and performance is the x700. I run an x700 on my LAN party rig and it plays everything just fine.
I'm very happy with the x800 Pro on my main gaming rig. Runs everything great.

Looking for a Xmas gift Video Card for son. He is big into Massive Multiplayers with special consideration for World of Warcraft. Is ATI or NVIDIA more suited to those games. THG did not include an example in their latest benchmark games for video cards. I am intrigued with the new ATI's, especially the 1600 which seems to give more bang for the buck.

Tom's hardware now has VGA charts VIII out: http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/02/vga_charts_viii/
Unfortunately they left out the 512 MB version of the 7800 GTX and they don't include
Call of Duty 2 as a benchmark, which is about the biggest graphics pig of any current game.
