ATI 9800XT vs. x800 Pro

Is there is significant difference between these two cards? I mean pipeline wise and that sort of thing. I ask because my 9800XT burnt up (litterally, lol) and I RMA'd it, and today a new x800 Pro arrived in it's place :-D. I had a feeling that was going to happen, as the 9800XTs aren't made anymore (or are they???)

BIG difference. More pipelines and bigger memory pathway.

I've gone from a 9800 Pro to an x800 Pro and it was like night and day.

You might find this chart useful: http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/02/ ... age21.html

They don't list the 9800XT but use the x700 Pro which is equivalent in performance.

And the discussion in this thread: http://www.pcabusers.com/forums/showthr ... adid=43247

SWEET. I'm suprised they sent you an x800 Pro. They could have sent you an x800 GT which is a crippled x800 Pro.

Bottom line: you won't see much difference at 1024x768 except you can crank up the eye candy. However if your monitor is capable of a higher resolution you'll be able to go to a higher res and maintain the same performance you had a 1024x768 with the 9800.

Enjoy.

The x800 Pro has 12 pipelines and the 9800XT has 8.
