I GOT MY RADEON....<B><i>TODAY!</b></i> I'll edit this message on how it works later today! Hell yeah!!!!

[edit]
so far everything is ok! When I first installed it, it would go fine and everything. I restarted the computer cause I wanted to check out some things in BIOS. When it restarted, it wouldn't boot. I thought, "hmm" So I cleared CMOS so everything is default there (except the CPU Speed) and the Radeon is working wonderfully. Without any tweaks or adjustments, I'm getting 60fps in Q3 at 1024x763-32bit colour, EVERYTHING pumped to the max. You can check out my system here:
http://www.runlikehell.homestead.com/ht.html

I'm gonna try tweakin' the card out some, try overclocking and making sure everything in BIOS is how it was before. I'll report back if anything goes sour!

Check out this article here:
http://www.gamersdepot.com/hardware/vid ... al/001.htm

My main point is this:
http://www.gamersdepot.com/hardware/vid ... al/010.htm

<i>We’ve found out after working with ATI that any of the boards marked with a “CD” on the chip had sporadic crashing and instability. ATI promises to have a driver fix later this week, so keep a close eye to their website.</i>

On my chipset, it sasy "CG." It's Neither CD nor CE. Check out your mobo and see what it says.

HT,

Good deal. Hows the picture quality compared to your other card? I should have mine in a few days as well.

I was having some nitpicky problems with WinME so I installed Win98SE and followed what somebody over at the rage3d.com forums did and it (so far) seems to be working flawlessly.

Before I would get random black screens which would force me to reboot or I wouldn't be able to move my mouse, but not click on anything. Wierd. <a HREF="http://www.rage3d.com/forum/ubbhtml/For ... 00114.html" Target"_NEW">Here</a> is the thread of the instructions I followed to install my Radeon.

Just checked my frames one more time and I am now getting 67fps. I guess WinME does slow down games a 'lil bit :)

About the picture quality. Well, it's hard to compare it to an 8mb TNT2. That TNT2 was so friggin' slow compared to this radeon, it's like comparing apples and oranges. What I can say is this. DVD's run like a dream. Where the last card would be choppy at parts and have some distorted scense; the Radeon has none. Runs VERY smooth.

3D seems to be awsome. Something about this card is all the features it has and also the capability to have some nice 3d acceleration. It's not the fastest card out on the market, but it's features definitly out-weigh it's "slower" performance when compared to a GeForce. (mostly only in 16-bit colour)

2D seems to be great too. The text seems clearer on the screen and it seems to be a <b>LOT</b> faster. Now, I don't know what your previous card was, so dno't get your hopes so high that when you get the card, you will be dissapointed. Just keep in mind I went from an 8mb SDR card to a 32mb DDR card. It's like going from a VW Beatle to a Porche, mmmkay? :lol

If you have any problems what so ever, feel free to e-mail me. I'd love to help a fellow Radeon user; I LOVE THIS CARD! :)

[edit]
Oh yeah, prior to installing Win98SE, I installed the latest BIOS from http://www.abit-usa.com That might have contributed to my seemingly faster/stable machine. The latest is 'KA7_TY' Try to install them if you get a chance. Can't hurt, can it? ;)

I myself am going from a 32MB Leadtek GeForce 2 GTS. Lots of horsepower in this card. But since I watch DVDs and TV more than play games I wanted better picture quality. I will wait to sell the Leadtek just in case, but you never know. HT, thanks for the imput. This is what this forum is meant to be :)

Hey Insane Morphius, I'm starting to hear my motherboard cry about the Radeon. Starting to get some random lockups and blank screens. I'm gonna see what the people over at the rage3d forums have to say. I'll let you know when I get it fixed and how I fixed it.

Hey man, it does rock! Athlon 700 getting about 66fps in Quake3 at 1024x768@-32bit colour everything MAXED. It's excellent. That's not even tweaked or anything. I just hope I can get 'er fixed :(

I know people have done it, but I have tried some of the suggestions people gave me and they haven't helped. If worse comes to worst, then I'm gonna see if I can get an Asus A7V and Duron/tbird to replace what i have now. But first I wanna see if Asus boards have any problems with the Radeon :) I dunno if it's just Abit's line or the actual VIA KX133 (?) chipset.

Like I said, I'll let you know if I get her fixed. But when she works, she's wonderful. Seems to lock up more in 2d (surfing the net) than 3d. It's wierd.

She will work. Oh yes, she will work :) Hopefully not at the expensive of getting a new mobo/CPU.

She seems to be working a _LOT_ better now. Since you said you were getting one, here are the instructions for a flawless Radeon on an Abit KA7/KA7-100:

You will need to gave the latest BIOS version, TY found <a href="http://www.abit-usa.com/english/downloa ... a7-100.htm" TARGET"_NEW">here</a> You will also need the flash utility so you can do this from DOS, found <a href="http://www.abit-usa.com/english/downloa ... uti-01.htm" TARGET"_NEW">here</a>. If you need help on how to update your BIOS, email me.

-=NEXT=-

Go into BIOS -> Advanced Chipset Setup
AGP4x - Disable (I couldn't even get my system to boot)
AGP Driving Control - Manual
Driving Value - 68
K7 CLK_CTL - Default

-=NEXT=-

Fresh install of Win98SE
Install Via's 4-in-1 Drivers (found <a href="http://www.viatech.com/drivers/index.htm" TARGET"_NEW">here</a>)
Install DX8 if you wish (I haven't done it yet - found <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeus ... efault.asp" TARGET"_NEW">here</a>)
Install ATI's Drivers (found <a href="http://www.rage3d.com/files/drivers/radeon.shtml" TARGET"_NEW">here</a>) I am currently using the Special Purpose Drivers.
Start -> Run -> Msconfig -> startup -> uncheck "ATIPOLAB."

-=DONE! ENJOY!=-
_____________________________________
This is what I have done and I have had no problems with my computer since then, except for "gittery" DVD playback (??) I believe DX8 might fix it. I'll give it a try. IF you need any help, let me know or let the http://www.rage3d.com forums know. They helped me when I asked 'em :) Hope this helps.

Nah, I'm just an average 15 year old with nothing better to do than hang out with you folks :)

Let me know when you get your Radeon. I'd like to see how it performs on your system!

Just got my Radeon playing DVD's again and have managed to use video in , but there is a lose connection with the vid in some where.

I installed win 98se on my 2nd hdd from fresh. Installed sound card, installed dx 7a, installed the Radeon drivers without Gart driver. I have not installed Via's 4-in-1 drivers at all. Now DVD player works and video in. Going to use my 2nd hdd as my entertainment hdd.

Chris.
