Al the GF 1080 benches via Blues News

Post by wvjohn »

https://www.bluesnews.com/s/171643/nvid ... ew-roundup

I'm running a 970 now, which gets it done, and am basically cpu limited in the only game I really play - GW2- but from what I am seeing this would be a minimum of 2x horsepower increase. I could also play everything at 1440 with with eye candy.

Probably just wait and see how the pricing sets up. I doubt that the Strix-class cards will be below the MSRP.

Guru3D is saying the card will be between $599 & $699 with another $100 tacked on for the Founders Edition. If I were you, I'd put money into a Devil's Canyon or Skylake CPU/Motherboard first. Another alternative is to purchase a 980ti or Titan X used. They will probably be half the price once the 1080 officially releases.

I have a 4970k, the cpu stuff if limited to that particular game which is dx9. My wife and I play together quite a bit, which is fun, so it's just the way it is with that game.

I didn't realize GW2 was so CPU intensive. You really don't have anywhere to go in that department unless you decide to upgrade to an X99 motherboard and purchase a 58xx CPU.

Not sure if it CPU intensive or CPU unoptimized :)

If the 1070 is faster than the 980GTI, that would be nice. It will really mess up the used market, though.

I like that the 1080 and 1070 have a single 8 pin connector. 1070 in SLI would be amazing.

I am looking forward to seeing what the custom 1070s will do, but as fast as a 980TI would suit me fine for an upgrade from my 970 if it is less than $400.
