Dumb question about monitors and refresh rates
Dumb question about monitors and refresh rates
The monitor on my main rig is a 32 BenQ 1440 panel which is rated at 60 mhz. For the first time ever, I have a bazooka vid card (evga 1080 FE) that can pull way over 100 fps in certain games (according to fraps). Is there any downside to the monitor from doing this?
Re: Dumb question about monitors and refresh rates
Nope. However, you may see tearing. If it bothers you you can either limit the framerate to 60 or turn on vsync.
Re: Dumb question about monitors and refresh rates
Enabling vsync or setting FPS to 60 are basically the same thing, making sure you get 1 frame on each monitor refresh cycle. vsync just ensures the new frame perfectly matches the new cycle.
But yeah, if tearing doesn't bother you, just let it go.

I can't stand Vsync because of the slight but noticeable lag in FPS games. I used to live with tearing until i got a GSync monitor.
