Some Android phones (the Evo 4G is one of them) has the factory default for contacts and calendar to local phone instead of Google.
If you buy a new Android phone, the very first thing you should do is add a new contact and new appointment and make sure you select "Google" instead of "Phone" as the type for both of them. From then on they will default to that setting for new entries.
HOWEVER, what do you do if you already have 152 contacts saved under the "Phone" contact list and you want them converted to "Google" so they get backed up to your Google account? That was my issue with my wife's phone. I has ASSUMED her phone was syncing everything to Google, but then I noticed the other day that everything was saved locally on the phone instead.
Did some research and found an easy way to convert "Phone" contacts to "Google Contacts:
- Export all contacts from phone to sd card.
- Next import from sd card and select the Google account as the target.
- Finally, go to the Contact View Settings and check "show Google contacts" and uncheck "show phone contacts".
I haven't found a solution yet for the calendar, but that's less of an issue. I made sure that all future calendar entries will go to the Google account, and in time it'll purge the old entries saved locally on the phone.
