Zello PTT - Walkie Talkie app for Android

This allows walkie-talkie communication on an Android phone, that works exactly like those contractor phones Nextel used to sell.

I do a lot of service calls in cell-phone blackhole areas, but there's usually Wifi. Comes in handy when the wife needs to reach me in a blackout area, and we've also started using it at antique markets where we tend to go our separate ways.

Unlike most other walkie-talkie apps, the app does not need to be open to accept a call. It runs as a light-weight background app. Hasn't caused any additional battery drain, and I'm pretty sensitive to that.

You have to create accounts on Zello - they're free right now. And in order to talk to someone they need to include you in their Zello contact list, so you won't be harassed by any strangers. Wife is the only one that can call me.
