I just got my new Dell Inspiron 5150 today. Hopefully by this weekend, I will have some pics of it up for all to see.
A short preliminary review:
Spec's
3.06 P4
512 megs DDR 333
60g HD
64meg GF2Go 5200
15" UXGA
4x DVD+RW
External USB Floppy
7.2 lbs.
Good
The screen is nice and bright
The audio is better than my 2150
The Keyboard is nice and tactile
Bad
It's heavy
The power supply is a bit on the large size
Other than the two points above, I would say I'm pleased with the new toy
I don't know If I will ever play games on it, but it's good to know that I can.
New Dell Inspiron 5150 arrives...Updated w/pics.

yeah there are plenty of replacements...unfortunately it isn't really worth the cost. if i remember right i got my laptop for $600-$700 (dell inspiron 1100). replacement lcd's will cost around $40++ . ebay also has a bunch, but only for older models.
i'm just trying to figure out how much i can expect if i put it up for sale "as is" on ebay or on the "for sale/trade" forum.

some things to do with your 5150, smb
join dell forums - support.dell.com
check the ftp.dell.com for bios updates. they show up here way before they hit the site. the filename is i5150-aXX.exe or something along those lines in the bios folder
another issue that has come up on the forums is the gpu overheating on both ati 9k and nvidia chipsets. since you dont plan to do any gaming, i guess thats not an issue, but more of an annoyance when you do. halo crashes on mine every now and then... which is why im looking for a good cooler (check other thread)
the 3.06 cranks out quite some heat, but most of the time its downclocked to 1.6.
download "speedswitchXP" from the web to be able to control cpu speed regardless of bios. (bios will still speedstep the processor down when it reaches 72degrees centigrade.) its not uncommon for these to run anywhere from 45-70 degrees.
'i8kfangui' can also be found on the web. this little tool will let you control fan speeds, although it is designed for the 8000 inspirons it will still read the hardware sensors - hard drive temps and cpu are the only two implemented on the 5150. some gaming machine!
thats my advice, and enjoy
i like my 5150 but as all computers, always somethign that could be better

Yep, I got all the bases covered already. I haven't played games on it, because I haven't had any time to. I do really like my 5150, but I just wish it came with a 9600 M10.
