I have the Acer Aspire One Netbook
1.6ghz 1gb ram 160gb hdd.
no optical.. no biggie
picked up external DVD-RW.. added the 9cell battery.. 8 hours on battery.. life is good.
I love it.. I use it over my old laptop.
300 at wally world out here in AZ

the price of the link he had shown me { when i 1st posted } is what grabbed his eye, but he does want an optical disc drive {not external }, ~ basically looking for a low-priced laptop that he doesn't have to worry about it if/when it dies on him, i reckon. the only "computer" in our house is my laptop, 'n' sometimes he just wants his own to go online with and also play music cds.
no rush, though, ~ we have other ongoing expenses @ mo to deal with, but thank you : )
