Samsung s5 AT&T 5.1.1 Battery Drain

I've only had my S5 for a little over a year and I'm already wanting to throw it in the trash. Ever since AT&T push a 5.1.1 update this month, the battery life has been garbage. I've went from 2 days to 1 and last night the phone completely died while setting on my desk overnight with the display off and on the WiFi. I'm showing 66 Percent Android system usage. I'm going to try a Master Reset but I'm getting tired of troubleshooting android.

Did you upgrade your apps? Could be some old app that doesn't play nice with the OS update and and eats up CPU cycles in the background.

I'll try that FP before wiping the phone. I don't have anything set to auto-update so that could be an issue. Thanks.

I have a S5, and it's almost 2 years old, but mine is on Verizon. I do charge my battery every night. It gets down to ~50% battery life in a day. I have gone 2 days, but that was only when it was new. Sometimes where I work, there is not a connection since I'm so far in the plant, so I turn on airplane mode to save the battery.

I updated all apps as suggested by FP. Then I restarted the phone in recovery mode and cleared the partition cache. After 12 hours of sitting on WiFi and answering a couple of texts, I'm at 89%. Before I updated the apps and restarted, I checked the location services and found and Daemon (used by Acuweather) showed high usage. I normally don't sit my phone on my desk because of poor signal. If it wasn't an outdated app causing the battery to die, it was the locator app not being able to get a fix or the radio trying to get a signal that drained the phone. Now that the phone is sitting where I normally leave it, it seems to be fine. If it happens again, I'm going to disable the Acuweather and it's location services. Witch would suck because it's nice to be able to have your weather delivered based on location.
Verizon tends to be more on top of their updates than AT&T. I'd actually have Verizon because I'd get a discount but I get no reception at my house. It's not great with AT&T but all I have to do it go to an exterior wall to talk. I let my batteries go down to less than 15% before I plug them in. At least if I do have a bad battery, I can simply buy another and pop it in. If I had to get a new phone, I'd have to either find a used S5 or get an LG. I refuse to buy a phone without a replaceable battery. I'm careful with my phones and have always had the battery die before I'm tired of the phone.

That was one of the things I noticed with mine at work. The phone sucks the battery dry trying to get a signal, which is why I put mine on airplane mode. Not only that, but the battery starts to get very warm looking for a signal.
Since I live up in Northern CA, at home I have AT&T for internet, which sucks compared to what I had in Southern CA with Verizon FIOS, but I kept my Verizon wireless account.

Mine seems normal now. I'm at 72% after 30 hours of hardly any usage. I took the day off and I rarely touch my phone when I'm home.
