Im trying to understand with cable internet . a ok connection or even a very good connection . it takes 1.5 hours to update a mobile Garmin when doing a map update of the US and Canada Roads . I have a Garman #2350 . I use to own a Garmin Streetfinder 550 .
back in the day with the Streetfinder 550 it take 1 .5 hours most the time to do map updates . off a usb cable to the computer some times 4-5 hours downloading from Garmin.
tonight Im finding the same results as years ago . they must use a slow server is all Im guessing . just by now they would upgrade there delivery system time .
they do have you download a program to check and approve there downloads /upgrades for there GPS car units and other hardware ~
i Guess im just bitching ~ :wow

Their server is painfully slow.

Not to mention that transferring the information to the device is slow. They use slow flash memory and a slow USB connection in my experience.

They are really slow to update. I had to actually delete some of the voice files on one once to make room for the update.

They dont do separate file downloads you can just dump over USB anymore?

My wife has a old GPS unit she insist on using, but I find it so much easier to just use maps on my phone. If your car doesn't already have bluetooth, most kits are under 150 bucks, and will make life a lot easier there. I put one into my 2007 Odyssey a few years back and it's great not having to use the clunky Honda GPS system, that is also expensive to update (and the music streaming from my phone is great as well).
