Crowd jeers eliminated U.S. team with chants of 'Osama!'

Post by blade »

I've not been following politics recently, but wtf is up with this bs?

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- The boos nearly drowned out The Star-Spangled Banner, and a few dozen fans chanted "Osama! Osama!" as the United States was eliminated by Mexico in Olympic men's soccer qualifying.

A loud anti-American crowd hollered as Mexico beat the United States 4-0 Tuesday night in the under-23 tournament, claiming a berth in the Athens Olympics.

As U.S. players left the stadium for their bus, several fans -- some clutching beers -- chanted "Osama! Osama!" in reference to al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

"It's better than having things thrown at you," U.S. Soccer Federation president Bob Contiguglia said Wednesday after returning to Colorado Springs, Colo. "I was bothered by the whistling during the national anthem. It's just the way it is. You accept it. Our kids showed a lot of dignity. They didn't do silly things on the field."

Police in riot gear held back the crowd and urged people to calm down.

"I think the fans here in Mexico are terrific; I think their patriotism and support of their team is terrific," U.S. coach Glenn Myernick said. "But unless I missed something, not one of them came down on the field and kicked the ball. We were beaten by a better football team tonight, not by the fans."

For Mexico, the game partly avenged a 2-0 loss to the United States in the second round of the 2002 World Cup, a far more important tournament involving national teams.

What does an unruly crowd at a sporting event have to do with politics?

The "politics" I'm worried about is Bush's intention to let illegal aliens from Mexico work in this country under some kind of bullshit "temporary" licsense. Now how does that increase our homeland security and I wonder how many of American workers will continue to be left without jobs if such a plan goes into effect?

I give the Bush administration credit. They can put a positve spin on anything. Much like the "Patriot ACT" ( a misnomer if there ever was one ) that tramples civil liberties and lends the air of anyone disagreeing with it as being "unpatriotic". That's a good one.

Well. I must say.......I'm glad those beer swilling, Osama shouting louts aren't formulating the foreign policy for Meh-he-CO. Although maybe Bush could negotiate a better trade deal with them than he did w/ Vincente Fox. :cool :

Geesus f*cking christ, wtf is with you vidman? :;

Did I say anything about bush? If you don't like a thread then stay out of it. Why do you always insist on pushing your twisted views. Now you're the 'thread police'? I don't think so.

You're pushing a bit too much, bud.

Oh but it's ok for Sov and SBP to call people Democraps and say things like " LOL, THAT WILL SHUT HIM UP".........That's not being pushy , is it!

So we don't agree on politics much, at least enforce the rules equally for both sides. Or is it only freedom of speech in here for Republicans?

Do you see me calling anyone names? Do you see me insulting people because of their views?

NO......... you don't. The problem in here is people can't DISCUSS anything without a CERTAIN few becoming ignorant and insulting.

You can twist it around all you want.

Those comments were in a related thread. Your comments here are 'out of the blue', in this thread. I asked a simple question. It had ZERO to do with bush.

The point is, to try and keep it in related threads. I made this politics forum because of you. But I guess you prefer to be out of control and just let loose and fly with it.
ignorant and insulting

Yes, I see what you mean with some of your recent posts. Vid, if you are so unhappy here and with me, you know what to do. I have enough bs going on now with my life, I do not need anymore.

You're the boss. I'll be over in Gen Hardware. Maybe we could start a separate subforum for Politcal Discussion and keep this one for Partisan Rants?

jeesh, everybody should just take a "V". Maybe that would help.

Nice of you to say so. I like to think we're all friends in here and I know I can be a little scarcastic sometimes and it's apparent that some may see that in the wrong light as well. It probably wouldn't hurt if we were ALL a bit more civil in our posts. Courtesy can be a wonderful thing.

I mean like WTF, I sure don't want to get banned before election day !! I think we can have some real fun in here! :D

But can anyone explain why some mexicans now hate us? Is it because we try preventing them from coming to america?

I agree that anyone shouting Osama is a terrible and disgraceful stunt, but I don't think you can say all Mexicans hate us. I'd write that off to soccer mob mentality.

Plus, if you've ever seen some of those Euro soccer matches.......let's face it, they take that game WAY too seriously and you have to remember that we kicked their Mexican butts hardas$$ backwards out of the World Cup tourney last time we faced them. :D That doesn't sit well with soccer fans in other countries where that sport is their national pasttime. Would be kinda like having the Paris Palookas come over here and win the Super Bowl. :laugh
