Counter-Strike - Zero Ping

Does anyone remember something that was being devloped for Counter-Strike that would make hit caluculations being done client side (I guess that is what you called it. It eliminated the need for a modem player having to lead an LPB due to the differences in ping) If you know of a web site that has any information about it I would appreciate it. I think it was called Zero Ping.

The only thing I know of along that lines is built right into the HL netcode. Basically, when a HPB with a ping of say 300 points his gun at an enemy and fires, the server determines if that enemy was there 300 ms ago. If he was indeed there, the server registers it as a hit. Other than that, I've never heard of anything else along those lines.

I believe the client side thing was the Zero Ping they had planned (used?) for Unreal Tournament. It was eliminated because players could theorectically pause the game, aim and shoot upon unpausing. It also meant that players running from a sniper would get hit altho they had already made it to safety behind a wall because on the lagged player's PC he would still appear in the open.

I know that in Urban Terror shot prediction is hard coded into the program and it calculates your aim against your ping but I don't know the intricacies and differences between the two...

I hope I made some sense and didn't just talk cr4p here, lol :) I just play the damn games...

I dunno about that but I know a couple of console commands that would help most of the broadband users get 20ms or less!!

cl_updaterate 70
cl_cmdrate 70

ok, if it screws up on u the default value is 20.
the ping it shows on the scoreboard after u type this should be HIGHER than before u typed the console commands. but now type net_graph 3 in ur console to check ur ms value. it should be somewhere around 20ms :P and it feels more like LAN IMO. sometimes it would spike to like 300ms, if that happens u either wait till the ms drops to back to dual digits, or u type "timerefresh" in ur console. I bind a key to the timerefresh just incase the ms spikes up :)
