xp and ut problems

im having problems in ut with xp

hardware setup

Tbird 1.2
TNT2 Ultra
sb live mp3+
512 meg pc 133
40 gig ata 100 maxtor
ecs mb

win xp sb live drivers

When i install ut sound is fine but after the first play
every time i play ut the sound is distorted and no good, this doesnt happen in any other game nor did it occur in 98se

this also happens in tactcal ops(ut mod)

i have tryed disabling eax and 3d sound high quality sound etc....

any help is appreciated

This could be off base, but check your live settings to make sure that you don't have any special 'effects' turned on. I had that happen to me once. Still don't know why. Sound was fine until I entered a game with EAX, then it would go all funky.

actually im useing xp's drivers and dont have the liveware installed because of problems ive read about in xp

I had the same problem and decided to go back to Win2k until Creative releases the drivers for SBLive and XP. Buddy down the street had numerous problems with his SBLive and XP. I know that many people are using their SBLive's in XP with no problem. Creative's site says drivers will be out in late Oct. so should be soon.

I hear the Audigy's works ok in XP... don't know if thats true or not.

so is this a forced upgrade on creatives part? the autigys look sweet, but cash is 0 and i need a new vid card first

I had this problem and fixed it by editing the UnrealTournament.ini file. Look for the Galaxy Audio section and change the "Use Direct Sound" value from true to false.

No problem :) I also read you can get the same result by running dxdiag and on the audio tab move the slider to the lowest setting. That will evidently disable directsound for all games/apps though.
