RTCW=worst $50 I ever spent
Ok, I just bought Return to Castle Wolfenstine......and all I have to say is................DAMMIT!!!
the multiplayer is ok, I am kinda partial to the flamethrower
but the single player sucks. I have more fun playing the old version of CW
WTF were they thinking, releasing it for $50. Its prolly the most expensive piece of crap I ever bought
anyone else have similar/different opinions?
(heh, what a way to make my appearance. Speaking badly about RTCW )* )

I thought it was an excellent game. One of the best I've played in ages. I thought the AI was good and gameplay was excellent. Of course the story could have used some more thought, but what game has a real good story, honestly? Half-Life story is pretty good, but it twists at the end and that kinda made it suck I think. Other htan that, I think the only other game with a real good story is Interstate '76. So considering there are only two games out of the many I've played with a good story line, I don't hold that against it
As for making your appearance and bashing RTCW, who cares Every body is open minded here I think and you have the right to state your opinion. I'm sure others agree. I know my friend down the street thinks the multiplayer aspect of it sucks
So welcome to PCA :B Enjoy your stay and stick around, we have contests every now and then and the longer you stick here and get to know people, the better your chances

yeah, I know I shouldve waited for a sale (or tried a "trial" version ) but I heard more good stuff about it than bad stuff. But still........$50 is a bit high for something that doesnt come with anything more than a lousy instruction booklet. I mean........a cheap poster, demos of other upcomming games, anything.
Oh well.............live and learn

I've gotta admit that RTCW has been a bit disappointing.
It looks stunning visually, but that's only on the first glance. Look at the textures - it looks like a cartoon compared to the MOHAA demos or even DOD (and you know how old the HL engine is). Their texture artists just didn't throw themselves into it. Things are too clean and monotonous. The only maps that even begin to look really good are the bombed out towns, but even there the artists didn't really do their jobs. Textures just don't look gritty and dirty as they should. Damn buildings are bombed out - they shouldn't look like buildings in a spiderman cartoon strip.
The AI doesn't impress me at all, and the single player game is basically DOOM on crack. I know, some people like the Doom-ish no-brainer shoot-em-ups, but I think that formula is getting old.
The maps are EXTREMELY linear - to the point of the absurd. I don't mind a linear game, don't get me wrong, but I would like a LITTLE free will to choose my own path - or at least the illusion of it.
The only real thrill in RTCW in the end is the expectation of seeing what the next bizarre Nazi experiment is going to be - I admit that's cool.
The multiplayer game I'm somewhat disappointed about. I'm really TRYING to like it but the weapon balance sucks, and it's disappointing that both sides can use any weapon. In DOD there's this great hair-standing-on-end feeling when you hear a German weapon being discharged near you that tells you you're in deep doo-doo. There's no visceral sense of expectant fear in RTCW when you can't tell from the sound of the weapon who's opening up outside the door you're getting ready to barge through.
I don't know - right now my feeling is that once I finish the single player game, it's coming off the drive and getting sold. I'm really trying to give multiplayer a chance, but frankly I keep getting drawn back to Dod or the MOHAA multiplayer demo instead. It just doesn't hold my attention.

I tryed just watching it multiplayer and it didn't look extraordinary to me at all (havent actually tryed playing it yet online) but I'm now playing the singleplayer version and it seems to get better as you go along and some parts aren't bad. I'm glad that I "borrowed" the game myself
When you think about it, how much better can shooters get anyway? The only one I'm dying to see yet probably never will is Duke Nukem Forever, forever being made that is.
