If you like to play First Person Shooters online BUY SOF2 NOW!!!

Post by FlyingPenguin »

I got it today. This game does it right. CTF matches are a sh@t load of fun. Maps are well designed. While there's some weapons physics, there's not a LOT like in DOD or CS.

Most important, right out of the box with no patches this game run SMOOTHLY on Internet based server (and least on broadband) unlike MOHAA which STILL plays like crap on the Internet and has been a vast dissapointment to me because of that.

Maps are well laid out and performance is very good even on my older LAN party system (Athlon 900 w/GF2 GTS @ 1024x768).

A lot of people have been commenting during gameplay that they haven't had this much fun playing MP since Quake2 first came out.

Lot's of nice little touches like tall grass to crawl through (and the grass blows in the wind!). Incendiary grenades are fun as hell.

I'm not interested in the solo game so I can't tell you anything about that.

man FP............... now im gonna be another $40-$50 short next paycheck :-)

maybe i should try the "online demo" first. would it be enough to justify it's gameplay compared to the "retail" game??

But I have played a few times, and the maps in the jungles rock!

A real sense of realism and bein' sneeky!!

RAT: Never played the demo so I'm not sure if it plays as well as the retail version.

If you like DOD, CS, Q3 Urban Terror, etc, you'll LOVE multiplayer in this game. It's just plain FUN.

I played the demo, its about 90% to the retail, the running in demo is slow, is a bit faster in retail but still good, cos everyone runs slow so all even.

also, who wants retail of Global Operations ?? brand new, installed once, back in box within 10 mins.

going for $50 AUD

The more I play this the more I like it. It's subtle but they did a LOT of things right that the reviews in their haste to get published have missed.

- I like the automatic player messages ("Check your fire","Grenade") - nice touch.

- The weapons are really brilliantly balanced. The AK47 is incredibly powerful (more s othan the Colt) but it's walks with sustained fire (better to use 3 round bursts). The colt is easier to handle and it's grenade launcher is VERY nice, but packs less wallop than the AK.

- Body target specfic damage feels very good.

- Nice that there's a "Last weapon" key. I miss that in some games.

Does the game come with a CD-Key? I only ask because if I buy it I'm going to want to play it at my friends LAN and if we all have the same CD-Key then it ain't gonna work online.

Yes, it uses the same CD key system as Quake3.

HOWEVER, like all Quake3 engine games you can use the same key (or a key generated by a keygen if you can find one and you don't want your friends to have your key) to play on a LAN.

The game doesn't check CD keys for LAN play only Internet play, for which you need a valid key.

Awsome. I see that now that I downloaded the game [demo]. I never knew it ran from the Quake3 engine :) But what game doesnt' now a days :p It runs incredibly smooth! I can run both this game and Quake3 at 1280x1024@32bit color, max everything and it runs fine. Unlike most other games that use the q3 engine (namly RTCW and JK2) I can only run them on 1024x768, specifically RTCW it gets down to 20fps when I look out over the beach?! Maybe these new catalyst drivers will help some, I'll have to try it out soon.

Thanks FP.

RTCW, MOHAA & JK2 are put a major hurt on the 3D hardware.

I too am pleasantly suprised by how well SOF2 runs. It even runs nicely on my wife's P3-550 w/Geforce1 DDR. :)

I guess what I like about this game is that it's FUN - like DOD and CS used to be before weapon physics.

Don't get me wrong, I love DOD and CS and still play them, but you can't just jump into a game anymore and HAVE FUN. It's WORK and STRESSFUL to play CS or DOD well.
