Max Payne 2 shorter than the original

Yep, a buddy of mine finished it last night after buying it at lunch. Took him approximately 7 or 8 hours. Apparently there are just 3 Acts to the story. He reports it's an incredible experience, but for 8 hours? I'll wait till it goes to $19.99.
I misread a preview that reported the length to be 3 or 4 times larger than the original. What it really meant is that the scripted story was 3 or 4 times longer, not necessarily the gameplay.

I just started playing it... it totally kicks ass bullet time i missed it so much

The graphics are friggin' SWEET!!!!!! Even on my 8500 i'm running 1024x768 everything cranked up to high and its running smooth. Environment objects are so damn cool. U run into a chair it moves same with boxes and other items. they'll fall over and make noise if you run into them. So far i'm really impressed with this.

Yeah I started playing it the other night, so far it's a sweet game, pretty much similar to the original, which I loved, so I'm having fun. I heard about how short it is, oh well I'll report back when I finish it...

I'm nearing the end and still loving this game. Each second is a total blast. The textures and models look fantastic, and the realistic physics via the Havok engine make the firefights even more intense, frenetic, and relentless. Max's new look is a welcome improvement. No more diarrhetic scrawny cop here, just a grizzled looking and well-aged veteran.
It's everything good about the first game, made much better. It's one John Woo bullet-ballet action setpiece after another, and half the fun is watching the carnage unfold as bodies and objects go flying about the place. I just love how any one scene can unfold differently as enemies are strewn about depending on how they interact with the environment.
Even the infamous dream sequences have been made less annoying and more dark. The comic-book like storyboards are back as well, although there aren't as many amusing and corny Sam Spade metaphors as in the first one. It isn't as over-the-top, but it still retains the entertaining spoof on hard-boiled detective prose. The TV programs with Lords and Ladies and a new one called Dick Justice are hilarious. There are lots of clever little easter eggs and tiny details hidden about that serve as nods to the original.
It's amazingly stable as well, nary a hiccup, bug or a crash yet. The one and only complaint is the shortness of it. I'm definitely giving it another run through though. If you liked the first one (as I did) definitely check this one out.
Can't wait too see what mods they come up with for this one...

I've been playing the first chapter for about 3 hours. I keep wandering around checking out the scenery and getting popped.
Eyecandy galore. 9600. everything maxed and runs sweet.

ya everything i have read is simply fabulous. i have no problems with the lenght of the game if it's done right, which this game seems to be. i just can't spend $50 on it yet, i will when it hits $30'ish. i saw a picture last night on some gaming site (can't remember where now) that someone figured out how to access Mona nude! i'm not sure if that's considered weird or not, lol.

Runs sweet on my GF2 4800. Actually runs smoother than the original game. I just started playing the orginal again for grins and it stutters a bit at 800x600 full eye candy.
Payne 2 is silky smooth at 800x600 full eye candy and I suspect it would run well at 1024x768 on this rig too. I'll try bumping it up tonight.

No I never run AA or AS (GF4 4800 here).
I've just never seen the point. AA only looks good at 4X and the only way to run most games at 4X is to drop it down to 640x480.
I'd rather run it at 1024x768 without AA.
Frankly, since I mostly play FPS games I don't see the big deal about AA.
