The video is still uploading and processing as I post this. It won't do the game justice one Youtube's done compressing it. It looks amazing and runs good on my rig (2500K OC 4.2, GTX 1080, 16GB RAM, Crucial SSD). I started recording when I was able to take control of the character and stopped after the first battle. I've been waiting for this to release for a while and mainly wanted to see what it looked like before I went to bed. I wish this was released on a Friday so I could just stay up and play.

Great visuals and very good dramatics. That fight she lost against the shadows near the end was intense. Some great acting, which is a rarity in games.

The whispering voices are an interesting atmosphere, although I wonder if it would drive me crazy.

Is it a linear game or open world? I tend to prefer somewhat linear gameplay.

IGN's review. I tend to respect their reviews: http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/08/08/ ... ice-review
Need to read it later.

I hope to get back into it this evening. I don't know if it's linear or not once you go to fight the gods but it's only a 7 to 10 hour game so I suspect it's pretty linear. I really appreciate that at my age. I don't really want to spend hours upon hours grinding and doing fetch quests. There are people on the Steam forums complaining about the length and think every game ought to offer a 50+ hour experience. I'm sick of those games and most people don't realize that the highest rated games are relatively short at 10 to 15 hours.

All of the animations were motion captured and the team that made this also made the recent DMC and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. They said they worked on the game for 3 years. Jim Sterling reported a game breaking bug in his run that has to do with missing an item and progressing to the next save. So far, he's the only reviewer that found this. The only flaw I've seen, but it's in all modern games, is the autosave. Any game that has an autosave should allow you to manually create a save or have an automatic save created at each chapter. I get that games want to offer the Souls-like/Rogue-lite experience since that is the trend but they also need to implement it in such a way as to not waste a players time or break the game.

The voices and Whispers are Senua's inner voices. The developers were aiming to create a believable character with mental illness. At the beginning, the game recommends headphones but I'm glad I opted for speakers instead.

May give this a try. I feel lost in the open world games and I love the atmosphere.

I finally got to play this some more. I was delayed by having to perform a brake job on our van on one day and then was too tired and sore on the second. My knees are still mad at me.

I went the fire path for my first boss. I died three times. 2 of the deaths were due to the puzzles. I didn't fully understand what I was supposed to do in one and went the wrong direction in the second. I won't say anything else about them because it would spoil them. If you buy this, you'll see what you need to do. The combat is so satisfying and feels good. It's not particularly difficult but you must be able to block and dodge effectively. I'm playing KB+M and it fells fine. The game doesn't explain any of the controls so you need to refer to the menu. Block (Parry) is Left-CTRL by default. I thought this would be an issue but it works well. To dodge, you need to push a direction (left, right, back) + Space. Once you get those down, you'll be fine. Heavy attack is Right Mouse and Light Attack is Left Mouse. You will also need to listen to the voices during battle, they will tell you to "Watch Out!" or "Behind You!" When you hear this, immediately dodge. You also have the ability to use your focus during battle. This slows the enemies and allows you to get a bit of damage in or get around them to hit them from behind if they have a shield. I did beat my first boss and it was an awesome fight. I died to him the first time because I tried to block instead of dodge his attacks. I know it's going to get harder but so far I'm really enjoying this game. I'm going to take my time with it though and not rush through it. The hour I spent tonight was great.

On October 10, 2017 Ninja Theory will give all proceeds this game generates to World Mental Health day. I highly recommend this game.
