net_graph 3 (it turns on other things as well)

net_graph 0 turns it off

there's net_graph 1 and 2 as well, just play around with it....

Netgraph slows the computer down a lot and thus is a poor method for measuring fps. A better way is to type "cl_showfps 1" (without the quotes) in the console.

Keep in mind this ONLY measures realtime fps which is a poor method to begin with. Unlike other Quake engine games, HL doesn't do timedemos which gives you an AVERAGE fps which is much more meaningful.

Also, keep in mind that you MUST disable VSync in your video drivers and set fps_max to 99 in the console BUT for actual gameplay you want VSync enabled (usually) and fps_max set to 72.

HL can do timedemos. just grab your favorite *.dem file (have it in Halflife\valve\ folder) and in console type:

timedemo *demoname* (no asterisks)

that should run the demo and give you an average FPS after the timedemo is run.

I prefer net_graph 3 over cl_showfps 1, seems more accurate and it shows your net performance as well, but whatever you like...

I prefer the net_graph as well. Seems a more accurate representation of HL performance IMHO.

Altho I checked and net_graph does slow your computer down, quite a bit, I was losing over 10 (maybe even 20) fps with it on, not good...

I tried out both after reading yer post here, and I see no difference. With the settings unchanged, I get a steady 70-80 FPS with either one. Now with net_graph 1, oh yeah, there is a drop, but not n_g 3.
