Get your HDTV Converter Coupons NOW

Post by normalicy »

Well, it is finally that time. The goverment is giving away the HDTV converter coupons. They are worth $40 each & can only be used on HDTV converters. You are limited to two coupons. They don't work on HDTV's with the receiver, only converter boxes. Most importantly, they are limited, there will only be a limited number that will be avaliable & then they are gone.

Either go here (the website keeps giving me errors on both Opera & IE):
https://dtv2009.gov/

or call 1-888-DTV-2009

I'm not sure, but the mods may want to throw this in the deal forum too or something.

Note: ANY TVs on cable or satellite won't need those. They're only for those rare people who still use rabbit ears or an external antenna and with older TVs.

Good info. I was just about to ask that same question. I'm currently on satellite so I don't have to worry.

I guess I just assumed that those who needed one would know. Yes, if you use cable or satellite, you won't need these. These are for people who want to watch standard over the air broadcasting. I have experienced it myself & have to admit that the quality is very good.

Their sketchy ad campaigns are giving me a headache trying to explain all this to my non HD family and friends. Since at no time do they ever say that with analog on the way out that cable and satellite will incorporate these "downtuners" in their signal/rebroadcasting.

Cable and Sat TV are already Digital.

The only problem is people that still pic up "over the air" signal. That is what will no longer be available. So those people will need the HD down coverter

fyi cable is analog/digital with any thing under channel 100 being analog. But that is neither here nor there when it comes to ntsc vs atsc broadcasts.

I wonder if any cable companies will squish the image to satisfy the silly people who dont care for an ugly aspect ratio as long as "those ugly nasty bars" dont have to be seen

I know that one of the only ones that has the Smart Antenna feature is the Apex DT1001 (also has s-video out which I need).

However, I have heard very good things about the Zenith's reception abilities, but there is no s-video out.

Here's a LIST of features for the accepted units.
