finally got my P4 system rebuilt

Post by wvjohn »

I got my msi 645 ultra back from rma and they sent me an ultra-c which seems a little more stable - i swapped cases, etc. and finally took apart my trusty 2hd on a promise controller setup which had been installed on 3 prior motherboards (BX,KT133,KT166) without ever reformatting or a clean install of win2k :)

here's what i've got now

1.6A @ 2.265 Ghz (142 fsb @1.52 v) - win2k sp3
768 Crucial pc2100 (3x256)
Radeonski 8500DV 64 mb
18 Gig WD and a 20 Gig Maxtor
16x Pioneer Slot load
48x Creative (thing just keep running - over 4 years old now)
OnBoard sound for now
19" Nec Accusynch 90 (not great but ok)
Intel Nic
DSL over Lan

the temp is still a little high (46 C folding, 42 idle), but i've got a stock intel 2.4 xeon wind tunnel heatsink/fan combo which looks promising :)

142 at cas 2.5 seems to be the sweet spot for this combo, it will boot at 2.4 (150 fsb) but i can't get it stable - this mobo has limited voltage tweeks - and this isn't too bad for pc2100 that is quad pumped - the sandra scores are pretty good compared to the benchmarks - i didn't write them down and i'm too lazy to run them again right now - about 75xx 3d marks the last time I checked - i think the clock on the vid card is 250/250

all in all i'm quite pleased with this version of my main system - everything except the vid card and the extra memory is on the value side - very stable and it's neat to be able to run f@h, surf, watch/record tv, ect all at the same time . . . .

if I can just figure out where Greg keeps finding those monster hard drives ;)

I am going to play with the Xeon fan this weekend and see if I can get it onto my case, the fan I am using is only about 4500 rpm, i have a higher output one also available to try - I just haven't had time to play with it :)
