My Alpha Pal heatsink came with pads to put at the bottom. I'm not supposed to use them right ?

Also, should the fan push air towards or away from the cpu ?

Not to sure about the pads but alphas are designed to have fans blowing away from the heatsink

They are? Every HS/fan combo I've used had the fan blowing towards the cpu including the alpha I used on my C366 for 2 yrs.
My T-Bird came with a 'CoolerMaster' (looks like an alpha IMO) HS/fan combo (the fan was already mounted) and it also blows towards the cpu. My 1ghz T-Bird at 1.2 runs cooler than my C366 (with alpha HS) did at 567mhz.

Yeah alpha says the fan should blow heat away from the cpu. But you can flip turn the fan around to have it blow cool air into the cpu. Most people I've talked with and reviews I've seen say having the fan blow hot air way is a bit cooler {1-2C} than having cool air blown into the cpu. Evil: Since your happy with the way your cooler is set up and its performing well I would leave the cooler the way it is.

Alpha's are designed to have air sucked from them.

The pads are meant to be removed (the Tbird will have it's own pads)

Hmm..I have another question. I want to order a Card Cooler XT but if I have the heatsink fan pushing air away from the cpu then they will both be pushing air at each other. Will having the heatsink fan push air towards the cpu make it work better with the Card Cooler XT ?
