A little late nite OCing fun :)

Post by VidmanII »

Got my refurb XP333 from newegg today. Don't ya know they slipped me a rev 1.0. ugh....Looks like somebody returned a brand new one because this came with the whole retail bundle etc. Perfect shape. Was only 65 bux shipped and it's for my kidz/wife so what the hell :)

At least at first I thought it was a bummer but this thing runs pretty darn nice. Doesn't have the voltage adj up to 2.0v+ like the rev 2.1, but I don't really need it with this Duron. It does have the 1/5, 1/6 PCI dividers, that slick o/b Cmedia sound and mem Voltage tweaks so that's all good. :D

So far I've got it up to 7 x 172 FSB ( 1.0 GHz Morgan Duron unlocked and at default voltage @ 1200 MHz ) and that's with one of my 256MB sticks of Crucial PC2100 !! And yes it's stable there too. Looping 3dmark 2001se now for over an hour.

I've got some Samsung PC2700 coming THUR so we'll try to hit the magical 200 FSB then. Seriously tho, if you need to build a cheap 2nd rig or just want something fun to play around with, these Duron/XP333 combos are ALOT of fun !!

What's nice about these Morgan Durons is that you get the Palomino-type core, they run cooler than t-birds and they have the old style bridges that are easy to unlock. I used a magnifying glass and a pencil and was off to the races. :) It benches a little bit faster than a P4 1.6 in Sandra 2002. Not bad for a $40 dollar cpu and $65 mobo. Toss a mid-range vid card and a NIC in here and you have a nice "budget gaming rig" !!

B*stard. My Crucial didn't come from that bin.....

Sounds like good fun. I spent a whole sunday trying to unlock my XP and didn't get it to work....

I hear ya on the XP unlocking.......I can't even see the bridges on those with these 40+ yr old eyes of mine. DOH !

Regarding the Crucial, what kind of mobo you using and do you have mem voltage adjustment options? I'm putting 2.7v on this stick and running it @ SPD in the BIOS. It runs cas 2 @ 172 FSB but I get higher Sandra scores running it @ SPD. Go figure. (???)

I just ran a few 3d mark 2001 se's and I'm hittin' consistent 6K scores. I haven't even messed with OCing the GF 3 ti-200 yet. That ain't too shabby for a little "mess around" box. :)

Shuttle AK35GTR... I can juice the mem to 2.7... I could be blaming the Crucial unfairly, but it seems like it is the prob. My box will run 24/7 at default mem settings at 144 FSB. If I do anything other enable 4 way interleaving, I get Internet Explorer crashes and errors, even if I push the mem core voltage.

I was trying to unlock so I could be sure it was the mem... 45 year old eyes don't make the grade when you are trying to do that...

Try setting the "command rate" down at the bottom , in advanced chipset features, to 2T instead of 1T. Then go ahead and set the cas and tras lower.

Haha, Trust me , that's all it's faster in. The Samsung would be a waste in my rig unless I unlock the processor. My combo won't go over 151-152 FSB and I have to use a Delta fan, or similar, to run there. I just can't handle the noise of those things for any length of time.

no way, that ant the bet........ You have to leave it at stock/default speeds. I'm already spotting you 400 MHz. I got $10 that says the Duron "tweaked up" to 1.2 GHz mops the floor with that turd. :lol
