How Hot Is You Thunderbird ?
I'm running my AMD Thunderbird 1Ghz at it's regular clock speed and voltage. My temp is 30 degrees idle, 37 - 40 degress when in use, and over 50 degrees when playing video games.
I just want to know if this is abnormal and what kind of temps are other people getting.
I also get kicked out of games every once and a while, could it be a defective CPU ?

I think I know what is the problem now. My cpu runs hot but when I touch my heatsink or the air that the fan sucks out from the heatsink it's not that hot. So I think I put the heatsink on incorrecty.
I took the heatsink off the cpu and the thermal paste was hardly on the cpu and was pushed away by the heatsink, how do I keep it on ? Could the heatsink be on too tight ? I have to force the clip into place, should it go in place with ease ?
Does anyone know a website that will teach me how to put my heatsink on correctly ?

900 T-bird (slot A) running at 1008 (9 x 112 FSB), Gorb.
36 Idle
41 w/ Load
43-44 after some "serious" in-house LAN action.
This Gorb blows. Prolly gonna put an Alpha P125 that I have laying around here on it.

The problem with looking at temps on a Athlon/Duron is that they are WAY off, the thermal diode is UNDER the CPU, so you are getting the ambient temperature at the bottom, pretty far (in electronics sense) from the core t-junction, thats why P3's and Celeron's are pretty nice becuase of the integrated thermal sensor, you have to understand that these 20/30-50 are under the CPU and the top is getting a lot hotter, as well as the fact that AMD's will not shut themselves off when they get too hot, they just burn up and die, I work at a computer store as a day job and I do a LOT and I mean a LOT of AMD cooling. You're best bet is to use Subzeropc's heatsink mounting guide with some arctic silver, it yields damn good results.
I had a kid come in with a a7v that the clip broke on the cooler (fop32-1) and it fell off when he was out the room, burned his cpu up (he brought it in, it literally was black and scorched) i kind of felt bad for him, but there was nothing I could do... you can't fix that ;P
My guess is the CPU did around 300f becuase the socket was melted, as well as some other parts around the board, yes melted i should have taken pics...
