Whats best mobo out?

Post by vafan13 »

I'm looking into getting my dad a new CPU and mobo, and i was wondering what the best mobos out were (for both AMD and Intel). Also, I have been getting amds for a while, but would it be wise to go back to intel?

Stick with AMD....

With AMD lowering the Athlon XP prices yesterday, and tons of good mainboards available on the market, I would stick with AMD for now. You can get an Athlon XP 2200+ (probably the Thoroughbred A version, but maybe the B version with the extra layer and resulting headroom) for around $100, and a good mainboard for $125. RAM is certainly cheap too, and don't for get all the other components. Basically, you can get the CPU and the mainboard from AMD for the price of just the lame CPU from Intel. And with Intel inside, you know your efficiency is less than optimum..... :s hame

I am waiting for....

I want one of those nForce2 mainboards, probably the one from Asus. I like to have the overclocking capabilities, along with the built in Ethernet and other functions. I still have not been impressed with the built in audio, so I have been installing an audio card on all my machines. In particular, I want that surround sound feature that is very difficult to get working properly with the built-in audio chips.

I would avoid the Kt400 VIA boards right now, as the Kt333a boards function better. If you want a VIA chip mainboard, wait for the Kt400a to come out. Then of course, you need to decide which memory you want to use, and the CPU...... :p

The Abit NF-7 will be the best Nforce2 mobo when it comes out. If youre going Intel, go with the Asus P4G8x.
Welcome to the machine.
