My wife was running an MSI K7T Pro 2 with a retail bird 850. I got a deal on a 1400 and decided to run it at 14x100. That was no good so I tried playing with the multi and fsb and got it to boot fine at 105FSBx13.5 Mulit. Seemed fine after a day but this morning it was locked. Now it will not boot at all, even after a clear CMOS! Sometimes it will go into the bios but lock within a few seconds. I tried the 850 again but it does nothing at all, not even an attempt. WHAT TO DO!

Before losing control, remember that you've been in the case removing and installing CPU's. There is a good chance you bumped the videocard or the RAM modules, so start out by reinserting those devices first. When clearing the CMOS, be sure to pull the battery (after you pull the power cord, of course) and short the terminals for at least a couple of seconds.

If that doesn't work, is it possible you damaged the CPUs when installing or removing the heatsink assembly? Have you been using thermal compound?

Here's one that's easy to forget - is there some type of lockout control that disables the CPU if the mainboard does not sense a CPU fan? Is your CPU fan plugged into the CPU fan port on the mainboard?

Double-check the wiring to the mainboard. Make sure you didn't pull a wire and then hook it back up to the wrong terminal.

If all that checks out, it would appear that you might have either a corrupted bios, or you may have run your CPU's too hot. Please provide more history about this system, and try some of the things I suggested....

1)

unplug it, clear the cmos
you may even want to take cmos battery out

2) slap that 850 back in check your bios version while you are booting up

3) surf on up to the msi site

and see if your bios supports xp's = i suspect that is the problem

4) see if there is a bios that does support the xp - if you have the kt133 i doubt the original bios will recognize an xp - i have one of those as well and i've been meaning to check myself

5) if yes, install and put 850 in a drawer

I've tried different PSU's, Vid Cards, RAM, and anything else. NOTHING will get this MSI to boot. It booted long enough with the 1.4 installed for me to load failsafe defaults but it still will not work right, guess it's toast!

I think it's trying to load a 1050 cpu now since I had the 1400 in it, and when I try the 850, it still is trying 1050.

Perhaps your bios load is now hosed. You might try to locate a bios chip and install that. Did you go through the process of clearing your CMOS? :aha

Many times! I'm gonna try it again and pull the battery though.
