I've never OC'd, but is my (future) Barton 2500+ a good candidate? I don't want to push it too hard, just try OCing for the first time. My mobo is MSI KT4V. Any abvice?

According to
cpu database the average overclocked speed is 2274 Mhz for that cpu. But I didn't see an MSI mobo listed. Though that just means not that many have that particular mobo.
Never had an MSI mobo but just take it in small steps and once everything is stable, increase more. If you start to have troubles you can increase the voltage, or just back it down some.
A good way to check for stabilty is to run the
prime 95 cpu torture test for at least 45 minutes.
