Help With E-Machines Comp.
My boss brought me his mother's computer, an e-machines T1140. As I understand it it was moved from one floor to the next, and when she tried to power it on the monitor said no signal and it wouldn't shut off with the power button. I opened it up and the processor fan was not spinning until I pulled out the power cord, then it spun for a second and spun down. Is this normal for the fan(never had a celeron processor, or emachines for that matter) and what could be wrong with the system?
if it has a fan on the cpu it should be spinning all the time
first thing would be to make sure all the conections are secure, adn that any add on cards are properly seated
make sure the cpu, ram, etc are properly seated
if it still doesn't power up properly, and it is an old celeron, you may want to politely suggest that it will probably cost more to fix it than buying a new system from staples or whereever
I rebuilt a compaq p3 800 for my secretary's daughter and it if hadn't been for free she would have done much better just junking it and geting whatever the $449 special was this week since she still didn't have much
emachines are notroious for low quality parts - i would say your best shot here is a loose cable or connection
