O/C'ing a Mobile 2400+

Post by dadx2mj »

OK I just got my 2400 + Mobil the 35watt version to go with my A7N8X-E. The mobo does not know what the processor is but I guess that is ok other than the lowest vcore it is offering me is 1.50 when the default is supposed to be 1.35. Guess that is no big deal as I am pouring 1.575 at it right now. Multipliers are acting weird as well. When I set it to 13x with a FSB at 170 it comes out at 801MHz . Currently I am using 12.,5X 170 and it is very stable . Nothing I have tried higher seems to be yet. What vcore have you guys put to these things I am water cooled so dont see a big issue there with heat. Also anyone know if a newer bios fixes the mobo recognizing the mobile chip? The date on my bios is 8/4/04 so it is not too old. So I am now at 2125MHz some what disappointing compared to some others I have seen with this chip. Any ideas or suggestions? TIA

I don't know if this applies here, but somewhere a while ago I read that some motherboards will only goto so high on a chip and any higher and it repeats itself, like 12=12 but 13=the lowest multiplier or something like that

my recollection on these is that the multis are only adjustable downwards - I think i had mine at 10.5 x 225 or something like that, but backed it down to 10x225 because of heat and it was happy there

you might want to go to the mobo website and check the bios list and see if there is one that recognizes the mobiles

Thanks for the replies guys. I went ahead and flashed the bios to the newest one on the Asus website. It did not help the problem. Kind of weird how the multipliers work. Some settings are for tow different multipliers. Like a high and a low value and the mobo seems to always take the low. Some others only represent one value. Currently have it running at 12.5x175 with vcore at 1.575. Will have to play some more to see if I can get more out of it but with this PC2700 I am not sure I can. Thanks again.

Yeah for some reason or other after so high it just starts to repeat the multipliers but using the numbers in order

10x=10x
11x=11x
12x=12x
13x=10x
14x=11x
15x=12x
(Just an example)

dad, loosen your ram timings just to get an idea of what the chip will do
Im currently running my mobile 2400+ at 247 x 10 on water- thats like the equiv of a 3800+ or something silly like that
I can actually get in the 2600's but not prime stabile.
all on a dfi ultra infinity
bh5 ram 2-2-2-11 on the ram

Aren't you using PC3200 ram or better? Unless you run mobile's 200 FSB or higher, it's kind of a waste. run 10.5 or 10 multi and get a new mobo ( and new ram if you don't have PC3200 or better. Asus boards are trash for OCing. some of the worst BIOS's ever and they use crummy capacitors. All that and you get to pay exorbitant prices for the privlege too.

Holly thread reserection Batman!!!

Yeah I am only running PC2700 and I know that is hurting me. Currently running at 12.5x180 for 2250MHz. Not outrageous but not a waste of time either.

As for Asus I love their mobo's this is the 3rd one I have had and all have over clocked well and all are still running strong. I only paid $80 for this one and I think that is a great deal for all the features it has.
