Well I started using my office again, the system I have there is a Barton 2500XP 333FSB.
That should be my best fastest system, but my 1700XPs seem to be much much faster and I am not even over clocking them. (well one I bumped up to a XP2000)

It takes forever to boot. Some other things also seem pretty slow. Everything that loads on startup is also installed on the 1700XP systems, stuff like anti-virus, firewall, spysweeper, so since that's all the same on several systems I am sure it's not got to do with apps loading.

As for networking, That system is on a lan to the net servers at the ISP and other systems. However I also have a 2000XP system there on the same router (my router, only my 2 systems and the net severs are seen) and the 2000XP system boots alot faster also. So I don't think the slow boots has to do with network.

It's a Biostar board, I have 3 or 4 systems using various models, I like those, the 2500 is the slowest of any system I have though regaurdless of boards.

Pretty sure I have noticed alot of other things running slow at times on that system too. Done all the checks for garbage anyway, but pretty sure since it's booting slow that spyware or such would not be an issue. It's slow even getting to that point. System was clean by the way. :D

As for system specs, I forget what I installed in that system off hand. Still a new system basically since I built it right before I stopped using my office early last year, and just started agian last week other than a day here or there in between.
It should have at least 512MB DDR since that's about all I ever install unless I go higher,
Large hard drive running DMA, probaly Maxtor 8MB cache and over 100 gig drive (my normal) or it could be a WD 8meg cache specail editon over 100gig (I have bought a couple of those too)

Pretty sure it's just the wrong setting in bois for that cpu. Tommorow I will also check again to be certain, but I think I checked for any system board jumpers like to set it at 100fsb. Either they were correct for the cpu or not on the board, but like i said I will check again!

Would like to know the stock settings for that CPU, and of course any other ideas why it may be so slow!

Still sounds like either spyware or a virus/trojan to me. You do all the full scans with spysweeper and adaware and a good anti virus? The best rated free av now is http://www.free-av.com.

Kaspersky, from all my checking around, is rated as the best anti virus. If anything I'd use their free 30 day trial and do a full scan to be sure. Kaspersky found 2 virus's that norton and avg missed on my system (2500 running 11x200).

Otherwise it could be a mobo or hard drive going out. Perhaps even try a "repair install" to be sure.

Default settings for the 2500 is 11x166. Any mobo jumper should be set to 133. ;)

Thanks I will check the setting when I get into the office again.
Pretty sure the system is clean., but will check it again with other programs if still having the slowdowns.

Also I have a WD drive in it when I looked, will drive the drive tools and see what they say. Everything is new and works fine other than a few things being to slow like booting so I don't really think I have any dying parts yet but never know.
