Help with conservative mobo cpu combination.

Post by Lmandrake »

Need some thoughts and suggestions here guys.

I have a mobo/cpu combination that won't OC worth a damn.

Here it is:

MSI K7N2 Delta2-LSR mainboard.
AMD Sempron 3000+ (Barton Core)
1 gig crucial pc3200 cas 2.5 (2 x 512) in dual channel mode
Antec True Power 350 w ps.
1 80 gig and 1 200 gig maxtor ata hdd
DVD and DVD Burner
Ti4200 video card.
Watercooled cpu core never exceeds 40 degrees C.

Default FSB here is 166. Multiplier is locked and all efforts to get windows to load at 170 or higher have failed. this includes new beta bios, cpu core as high as 1.79 volts, very slow ram timings, etc. I haven't tried single channel yet, but this thing will not oc at all.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks

I had a neighbor with that same mobo and it would not over clock at all. In fact he had problems keeping it stable at stock speeds as well. He ended up replacing it with a DFI Lan Party board and was able to over clock the same components up to 220 FSB. He was going to the MSI forums and there were many complaints on that mobo.

looks like the board had some issues.

I had/have one of the nf2 lanparties and it is a good oc board - had mine up around 225 without a problem as i recall

also not sure but your p/s might be a little light with a gig of ram, etc.
