20 & 24 pin ATX Power?

Ok im looking to get this motherboard and it has a 24 pin connector as well as that square 4 pin one. Now not too long ago i bought a Zalman PSU and would like to use it with this new mobo, but its only got a 20 pin ATX connector on it with the 4 pin thingy... can i still use it or do i have to find one of them 24 pin PSUs and what the hell standard is them 24 pin things any ways... cant find crap on newegg about it.

did a search and this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817159034 seems to use a 20 to 24 adapter, so if you can find one you shouldnt need a new PSU

ok what kind of power is on them extra 4 pins woul be my next question.

It appears to need an ATX12V 2.0 power supply.

+12v is on the short side... but OTOH I have the Zalman ZM400B-APS, which has a 18a +12v rail, and it powers my rig alright (but the +12v rail is only at 11.80v)

That goes the wrong way... takes a new 24 pin and makes it a 20 pin to use on older stuff... i woudl need to go the other way.

Pugsley, they DO make 20 to 24 pin adapters - one of the PSU's I just bought came with one).

He knows from the 2 I posted above, he just wants to know what the extra wires are;12v,5v,stanby,grounds,etc???

ok that explained alot... so i should be ok with this PSU that i have... and if not then ill get a new one.

Just plug your 20pin old PSU plug in the new 24pin connector on the mobo (its downwards compatible !) the right way...leave the four extra pins out. This SHOULD work and you wont really need an 20p -> 24p adapter !

I would/did assume that it wouldnt boot much like the at style connector.
