so I have a Gigabyte 7vt600-rz motherboard. I was running an Athlon XP 1800+, which did just fine.
I just got an Athlon XP 2600+, and tried putting it in (the motherboard specs support this), only when I turn my computer on, it just powers on, and I get nothing. No post, no video, but the power supply runs, and all the fans are going, etc. If I put the jumper on to make the FSB run at 200 MHz, then the 2600+ will boot just fine, only it's underclocked pretty extreme. if I remove the jumper (which sets the FSB up to 266, 333 or 400 depending on the processor--this is auto setting), then I get where it won't post.
I updated the bios, and now I'm just kind of out of ideas. the processor should be fine, and I'm really wanting to get it up and running 'cause it's a pretty jump from my 1800+. Got any ideas?
here's the CPU support list for my mobo: linky
