computer wont start
I have a AMD Atlon 2700.. 512mb ram..40gig hd..on a Asus A7V8X-MX motherboard. My problem is that every time I turn on the computer from the back it will start up for 1 sec then turn off...then it does the same thing agian and shuts down for good? I unplugged all parts..trying diff things to try and find if the ram or hd etc is bad. Still nothing ...I dont hear any beeps but the green light on the motherboard stays on the whloe time.. Also theres no light on the front power switch even when the computer does switch on for a sec. If theres anymore info I can give let me know..Thanx for any help here

Hey there, welcome to PCA
Do you have a generic power supply? May be bad...perhaps try a different one?
Did you make sure the heatsink is securely fastened to the processor?
Check the capacitors on the motherboard, make sure there aren't any that are bulging/leaking (we had a couple of Dell's that wouldn't stay on due to this problem, & had to get the motherboards replaced.)
Lose a screw in there? You never know...something may be shorting it out.
If you have a couple of sticks of memory, try them one at a time...
good luck...

No prob...I dunno, man...unfortunately since the heatsink wasn't installed correctly, the processor may be damaged (it doesn't take much, especially w/ the Athlons; they're fragile.)
Are you getting any beeps now? Any fans spinning? (if you hear one beep, that's good b/c the bios POST'ed successfully).
I have an older Athlon XP 1600+ I can sell you cheap to test...lmk...thx

Could be PSU, Do you have a PSU you can swap out to test?
Also sound suspiciously like bad capacitors. Check the mobo for bulging or leaking capacitors. Photos here: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=195

Christians warn us about the anti-christ for 2,000 years, and when he shows up, they buy a bible from him.

hmm..ok, try clearing the CMOS by using the jumper switch (check the manual, should tell you where it's located). Or you can remove the cmos battery for about a minute & then pop it back in. If you still don't get anything, hold down the Insert key as you turn on the PC.
