I found that the 10K drives aren't loud when they are just sitting there. It's when they seek that they pipe up. Sound like old 1 gig drives used to.

Otherwise, the 5400-7200 drives today are mostly silent. Seagate all the way for me (been burned from everyone else). Howver, WD is the way to go for 10k plus drives.

Also, I agree that quad core is really a waste at this point in time. Get a better dual core or just plain invest in a better Mobo/hard drive/PSU instead.

well FPs total was a bit off, but then again he didn't bet on me getting a HD or VGA cooler. At this point in my life I dont OC any more, so ill stick with the stock CPU cooler for now unless it runs too hot for me.

Be aware you're voiding the warranty on the card with that cooler. If you're not planning to OC the GPU I don't see much of a need for it either. That reference design is very quiet - I have an EVGA version of it. The fan spins at 30% when idling and can't be heard at all. I can hardly even hear it when it throttles up for gaming and runs around 75%. It's temperature controlled so it just spins as fast as it has to.

I know you already dropped the idea of 10K drives but FYI I upgraded my 80Gb boot drive from a WD 80Gb (which is nearly dead silent) to an 80Gb 10K Raptor. As stated above the Raptor makes nomore spindle noise than a standard fluid bearing drive BUT the head seeks are very noisy. However in trade for that it does improve performance noticeably. My secondary drive is a 500Gb Seagate which is silent.

I only have the OS and apps installed on the boot drive. Everything else (including data, temp files and games) is on the secondary drive.

If you're going to pay $155 for an 8800 GT and fan, you might as well buy a 4850 for $150 and get an extra 30% in performance.
