Ok I will have my new VP6 in my hands tomorrow.Thing is it has a heatsink attached to the Chipset ANyone know a surefire way to get it off without killing the board?Ive got a blue orb and some silver epoxy I wanna use instead of the HS abit glued on there

abit doesn't glue them on. they're using 2 push pins to connect them. you should be able to get that worthless thing off without a problem (my bp6 didn't even make contact between the HS and the chipset :( )

Anyway, from what I researched, they say use an old credit card, flat fairly hard surface and a wide flat tip screwdriver. It doesn't hurt to put the board in the freezer for a bit too. Pry against the flat credit card under the hs. I haven't tried it but have a blorb coming for a V6800. Good luck.

Bio all the abits I have used had the pins too but by looking at the pics of the new VP6 it looks like its stuck on without pins ;) Tho ill prolly tried the CC trick Thanks for the help guys just want to be ready when fedex comes tomorrow ;)

sheesh, does the chipset really get that hot that it needs a heatsink?

Its better to have the chipset cooled for stability reasons. Its especially better to do this when overclocking.

that's my next step :) HS on the ram, HS and fan on the chipset, HS and fan on the video card, Hs on the video card's ram, HS and fan on the cpu, but no clockgen

Hell I just got the Silver Epoxy and im about ready to glue HS's to every thing that even remotely feels warm LOL
The Artic Silver epoxy is good stuff
