Quick restart in WinMe
Quick restart in WinMe
Is there anyway to quickly restart in WinMe. I've tried holding down shift when clicking restart on the shutdown menu, but it still reboots completely. Win98 used to jump out and right back in which was great when updating a driver or something. Anyone?

Actually there IS a way. Just like there is a way to do a 'quick shutdown' (Which I use all the time in WinMe).
It actually uses a file leftover from Win98, but since WinMe kept it, you can still use the trick. (And it has nothing to do with DOS.) Oh and I haven't been able to try it either in Win2k, so I can't guarantee the results there.
I actually got the suggestion in an e-mail and I kept it, here you go:

C:\Windows\Rundll.exe
and then click Open. Add one space to the resulting command line, and then type
user.exe,ExitWindowsExec
Click Next, and then give your shortcut a name (Restart should work). Now click Finish. Whenever you double-click your Restart icon, Windows will restart without your having to go to the Start menu.

Once again, right-click on your desktop and choose New, Shortcut. In the command line, enter
rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindows
and then click Next. Choose a name for the shortcut in the next box (probably something like Shut Down) and then click Finish. You can now double-click this icon to shut down your computer, without going to the Start menu.
nice tip, thanks
