WIn XP Question

I am running Win 2000 Pro and am about to Install XPPro

should I do a clean install or should i install on top of it?

Although I'm sure you'll get some who will tell you clean install only, I did the upgrade over Win2K on my older (spare) PC w/o any problems whatsoever. The upgrade's easier because you won't loose everything now on your HDD, but you'll still probably need to add a few XP drivers for some things either way.
Some say they have problems doing OS upgrades while others don't. I personally have never had problems doing OS upgrades over an existing OS.

When I first installed XP I did it as an upgrade to Win2K and it worked fine. A few months later I did a major upgrade and did a clean install of XP. With the clean install some things were different than they were with the upgrade. Nothing major in fact I can't even remember what they were now I guess it boils down to your preferences and how much info you have on the HDD. Win2K and XP are based on the same technology so an upgrade should work fine, it did for me.

Well I just tried and it told me to uninstal, EZCD Creator & WinFax & Norton's Speed Disk.
I uninstalled EZCD Creator & WinFax and the setup proggie for XP said it would disable Norton's
Speed Disk driver. Now I am starring at a Blue Screen with the error:
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

Help!

ok, I booted Xp from the CD but was forced to install on the same partition.

Did I screw up?

Only other options I had were to flatline the whole thing or do this.

I now get a option upon boot to pick an OS although they are on the same partiion.

how do I uninstall 2000 now after I extract all the stuff I need?

How do I get my favorites to transfer?

I tried to import but no dice.

Recommend using Partition Magic 7.0 to format your drive

Do fresh install and upgrade the OS

I booted from my XP CD and flatlined it all and started a new. (that sucks)

IMSHO, it depends on your luck.

The only way I could get the old RAID array to work at the company I work for's
primary server when going from NT4 to W2K was to reinstall NT4 and do the
'upgrade': there was and still is no W2K driver for this Adaptec RAID controller.
( Anybody want to bid on 5 nine Gig Wide SCSI HD's and a controller?? )

That was the only time I can recall preferring an upgrade to a clean install.

I try to stay up with 'current' events with various PC type publications: my
SWAG is that Microsoft Upgrades have a problem 60% of the time.. clean installs
don't.

I really can't say if it's worth the extra time as I haven't upgraded many
systems. It just seems that with all that can/will go wrong with hardware
and various software removing a major issue like an OS upgrade is worth
the effort.
