well i just registered a domain name. i wanna host my own site. whats the best way to do this? im new to this

You would need some commercial hosting if ya want your registered domain (maybe http://www.wannabetech.com ?) to go to your webpage.
Those commercial hostings should start at maybe $10/month and go up depending on storage usage and bandwidth usage.
This is just to give yer a general idea, I hope some US guys jump in for more specific solutions.

The ISP space for private webpages (1-10MB in general) will always go to a link like http://www.yourisp.com/~username or comparable.
There are some ways to host your webpage from your homeserver using a dynamic DNS entry which you can get at http://www.dyndns.org/ or http://dns2go.deerfield.com/ just to name 2 ... but you can't use your domain name with that (and your ISP might not allow you hosting webpages on your own).

That's why you need a commercial solution to host a webpage under your domain name.

At least that's how I see the situation, I dunno if you can use regular domain names on dynamic DNS services but I really didn't look to much into the details with that, maybe you can.

Assuming you can spare the money, I highly recommend XO.com. They have a 100Mb/1Gb traffic account for $25 a month. I've been using them for 6 years with no problems.

If you want to do it on the cheap, you can use the free web server account that probably comes with your Internet dialup account (most ISPs give you 2 - 4 Mb). Then you can use Mydomain.com to redirect your domain to your web server account.

All you need to make yourself a good web server is apache It is a good and reliable web server (80% of the servers on the internet use this server). If you have linux, it will come with your linux distribution, if you don't you can install the windows version found here
