Firewall needed

I'm a picky F'er. Currently Norton Internet Security 2002 is blocking parts of webpages and other weird things. I need a better but free firewall. I refuse to use Tiny Personal Firewall or ZoneCrap. . . I mean, ZoneAlarm. Any suggestions ?

Dunno why you don't like Tiny. Tiny 2.0 is free and works WAY better than ZoneAlarm or anything else I've used. Also much easier to administer.

Tiny just didn't cut it for me. It was also blocking out stuff on certain web sites. (like the little forum icons and avatars)

I had bad time with McAfee and anybody assoicated years ago when I worked for a college,I'm still a little leary of them.I use Zone lab and Sygate.I like Sygate better but it's kinda
hard to judge them both now that i'm behind a Fw/router .I still run and keep both up to date but my money would be on Sygate if I had to pick one or the other.Besides Sygate and Zonealarm are both free.I had to pay for a damn subscription to keep them current.Ain't that a bunch of shit.

Those with Sygate, trot over to
http://grc.com/ and have your ports probed. With Sygate Pro installed, it says port 135 is wideass open and I need a firewall. It was never open with NIS 2002.

I just did the test with Sygate and port 135 was stealthed just fine. The only open port was 5000 (Microsoft's Universal Plug'n'Play) which I fixed with their patch...

Get a cheap 486 box...setup FreeBSD or some linux distro and learn yourself some IpTables. It is free, 100% customizable, and powerful. Check out:

linux sucks.
Anyways, I already have three comps running and a fourth is out of the question. I went back to NIS 2002 and found that the "Ad blocking" was causing the problems.

For all that trouble I'd just as soon set up os2/warp on an old 286.
security through obscurity.
Or How about Solaris 2.5 or Stargate on an old mac. Who knows how to hack them? Ip tables? childs play. set it up so scripts don't work. Sometimes it pays to keep old junk around.I just got rid of an old Altos server.I wish I'd kept it.
