anybody try the beta winxp 64 bit? free download from microsoft - i downloaded it but probably wont install it until i build a 2nd a64 rig ......

A free beta version comes with my new MSI 64 bit K8T Neo2 mobo. There are many XP 64 beta users at Anands so I posted the question there last night too.
So far it looks like there are too many lack of good driver issues and I ran into that when I first installed XP Pro yrs ago SO I'll just install XP Pro SP2 for now and wait for XP 64 to catch up.

Does anyone here know if XP Pro can be upgraded to the future Retail XP 64 (when released) or if that will require a fresh OS install?

In my case, even though I'm going to use a new SATA HDD, it appears that drivers for my SCSI drives card are questionable, says "In Box" and I have my doubts on that:

I have too many programs and files stored in my SCSI HDDs so I'm still wanting to hook them up as secondary HDDs.

Do note what's said about e-mail anti-virus protection. That's not good:

Because of missing 64-bit support, active virus protection for email is currently only available with Avast Antivirus 4.5 and McAfee Enterprise 8.0i. All other virus protection programs offer only a manual virus scan of your data at the moment -- incoming email is not examined. The other antivirus software vendors are expected to have their 64-bit versions ready when Windows XP Professional x64 Edition ships

I'm just curious why you (or anyone for that matter) is running a 64bit plarform right now when all the apps and OSes are still 32bit? Is it just bragging rights? There may be a few high end packages that are available on 64bit platforms already (e.g. a/v software), but what's the point right now? I'm really curious about this.

everythings's working fine now, why not tweak it and screw it up, hehe

no need to fool with it since it has no possibilities for me now except

early adopter bragging rights, etc.

Truck, even if you're running a 32 bit OS, the AMD 64 bit CPUs are faster than their 32-bit equivalents.
