Xp Sp3
Anyone having any issues with SP3? I waited and installed it on a test rig in my garage. The installation went okay with no issues. I had to install it so I can continue to use XP Autopatcher.

Well I just noticed an issue that has shown up since I installed SP3. Im not sure its due to the SP but now I cannot remote desktop to my main machine. Its enabled, the exception for port 3389 is in the firewall config, netstat shows its listening on port 3389 but when I try to connect to it from another xp box, it just flashes when I click "connect" and then the password is gone and it just sits there. I was having some serious networking issues as well. Had to bump the IRP size up to 16 before it would even share the "all users" folder ("not enough server storage to process this command"). Wierd stuff considering it worked fine before. I tried disabling RDP and then reinabling it but to no avail. Im not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I have SQL server express 05 installed due to the autodesk vault I use for cad drawings. I tried uninstalling symantec and disabling the firewall and still will not connect via RDP. At least I can share files on it now.

Well thanks for the info. I went ahead and installed it on my garage rig (the one that I share via Apex), and my test rig with VMware. Both installs went fine, so I figured I'd install it on my main gaming rig and there was no issues.
I really did not want to install it, but my main rig has not been updated since I built it last December, and I wanted to continue to use AutoPatcher. In order to continue to use AutoPatcher, you have to install SP3.
I don't know if you guys know that AutoPatcher is still alive and well. The author made a new program that grabs the update files directly from MS, since MS made that an issue last year. This new program allows you to check off what you want to download, including updates to Office and Vista.
Here is a PDF with pictures of what this looks like (new program called APUP)

What I do is use the APUP program to get my updates from MS. I then open the old AutoPatcher interface and it will load the new updates. The ones in blue have already been installed.

Well apparently Im only one of a bunch of people that are now having rdp problems after sp3. I uninstalled sql express and checked all my services. It has to be sp3. I also noticed that my rdp about menu says "Network Level Authentication not supported. Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1 supported"

Not 100% sure, but if this is an RDP connection to a PC on the local LAN then I think all you have to do is add the network path of the computer you want to remote to the Trusted Sites list in your Internet settings. "\\server" for instance
If you Google around you should find some info on that.

I upgraded to SP3 and have had no problems whatsoever with RDP. But you have to, HAVE TO make sure to upgrade the RDP on both the client AND server computers. It's not a critical (needed) update, so if you use Windows Updates, you need to hit Custom install, then go to the Software portion and make sure it's checked. Penguin is right, it does upgrade the RDP program.

Have an Nvidia vid card? What version driver you running? I had the same thing after updating my vid driver.eGoCeNTRoNiX wrote:I lost the ability to RDP on my box a few months ago and still haven't figured out what caused it, but I don't have SP3 on my home box.
